Wiarton Willie laid to rest in state funeral
Wiarton | by Matt Hermiz

Dignataries gather to honour late prognosticating groundhog
“Hearts will be heavy, eyes full of mist, Wiarton Willie, will be willy, willy missed.”

Words spoken by Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller as people from as far as Hamilton and London flocked to Bluewater Park in Wiarton Saturday morning, to pay last respects to Wiarton Willie — the famous weather prognosticating albino groundhog who passed away Sept. 16.

He was 13-years-old.

Miller was one of many dignitaries on hand, with Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Progressive Conservative MPP Bill Walker also in attendance as Town Crier Bruce Kruger and Town of South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson led a celebration of life for the late forecaster.

Wiarton Willie’s ashes now lay in their final resting spot in the Wiarton Train Station.

Bagpipes and drumrolls sounded, eulogies read and soft chuckles filled the air, for what was the 2004 born groundhog’s final farewell before Wee Willie assumes his duties.

There seemed to be little doubt Wee Willie will be ready step in seamlessly come Feb. 2, 2018 — his debut Groundhog Day.

“YES! This young kid, has aspired, and graduated with top marks in prognostication studies,” proclaimed Kruger.

Popular folklore indicates six more weeks of winter if a groundhog sees its shadow on Groundhog Day, while not seeing its shadow brings an early spring.

25 Days to the Georgian Bluffs Marketing’s Environmental not to miss Seminar. Summer is quickly coming to an end or maybe it already has. Seating is limited and it is filling up quite nicely. It would be good to get your free registration booked very soon. I am planning overflow meetings as noted below if the demand is great and I expect it to be. The location is the Wiarton Airport and the date is October 20th with overflow dates October 21st and 23rd. Send me an email at paul@georgianbluffsmarketing.ca or
call me at 519-375-2257. I will need to know the names of those attending so Leslie and her staff can get the event organized. The only cost to the attendees will be lunch and the restaurant is on the premises. Don’t forget your significant others as Wiarton is a unique tourist town with lots to do and spend the weekend on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula.
Expect to be wowed by the beautiful Bruce Peninsula and see the link with pics of the BRUCE. Bruce Peninsula Pictures
A great lineup is speakers is coming together (agenda of speakers will be confirmed next week) as well as exhibits in the parking lot. We are all looking forward the unveiling of the new Schellvac SVHX8 which
will be an exciting piece of hydrovac equipment. We have also arranged for a local piece of property to allow hands on use of the SVHX8 after the seminar. Try it before you buy it. Make sure that you bring your safety gear if you want to play with the beast.
I have invited the MTO to discuss the new regulations regarding hydrovacs and when the soft enforcement will end. I have also invited the MOE to discuss the new excess fill regulations. A brand-new service that is we have brought inhouse will make a radical change in the brownfield and contaminated sites cost to cleanup. Eisenstein Malanchuk, a legal firm has developed a huge business in the U.S. and I am representing this concept to Canada. Essentially, they source the insurance company that insured the impacted property during the contamination and claw back on old policies to assist the developer with the cost of the cleanup. This will be an important session especially for persons considering the purchase of contaminated properties. Golden Environmental will be discussing the new techniques for soil remediation as well products for spills to be a valuable asset to emergency response companies. They will also be rolling out the MIP and LIF units which will also make a difference in site delineation. Corbett Contracting will be on hand to answer questions regarding demolition projects and the use of the high reach excavators. Environozone will also be speaking on odour control at plants with odour, like compost, mushroom and rendering plants. The ozone installation will eliminate all odours and keep the close-by residents happy. APEX Environmental/Green Light will discuss the new state of the art hazardous waste facility in Barrie and Green Light will discuss health and safety issues. I am trying to get a portable vac unit in from Swift Environmental in Alberta which can be hauled on a 1-ton pickup or a trailer. Extremely handy for those small projects that don’t require a large vac unit. There will be a virtual presentation by NZ Stirrers to discuss extremely high torque soil mixers which have the ability to mix a depth of 20′ plus without bogging down. I also have brought on another new service that can pack, load, haul and dispose of explosives in a regulated site. Last but not least, most of us have boats and I will have an upholsterer showing of his craft. The Recovery Room is a craftsman and his work will be on display.
We at Georgian Bluffs Marketing look forward to seeing you at the GBM Environmental Seminar. See you in the Bruce.

Update on Seminar
John Malanchuk PhD is confirmed as a speaker at the seminar. He is a partner Eisenstein Malanchuk LP which is a law firm out of Georgetown (Washington), D.C. The focus of his discussion will help developers and owners of contaminated site reclaim funds from old insurance policies in place when the contamination occurs as long as it was prior to policies that have exclusions to contamination. These old policies cover most brownfield sites. The information that he has to share will be worth considerable dollars to fund cleanups. Don’t miss his presentation. Check the link below to get a short introduction as to what you can expect from his presentation.
